Ron Baxter Smith is an artist, photographer and director who divides his time between Italy and Canada. For years he’s been an assignment photographer and director working in the UK, USA and his home country of Canada.

From the very outset of Ron’s career, he proved to be a formidable talent. His early photography was awarded a year-long Canada Council Grant. It’s a merit based, competitive submission. He beat out thousands. He is the recipient of over 500 awards, including 80 medals, for his photography and television commercials in the USA, UK, Canada and Japan. He has also been awarded The Heart of Umbria, Italy Award. It is an award given to those who make Umbria their second home. His fellow recipient that year was the Academy Award winning composer, Ennio Morricone.

Ron’s work is in the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago, The American Institute of Graphic Arts, The National Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery of Canada, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Royal Ontario Museum and more. He has worked for some of the most renowned Designers and Creative Directors in Marketing and Advertising and has helped raise up any number of young talented art directors - where his understanding of art and, more broadly, popular culture, influenced and deepened the photography he crafted to tell their stories. He is tactile, intuitive and visionary and demanding of himself.
